![]() DNC, Wichita and Lincoln blog DNC, Lincoln and Wichita – Hi all, Just a note to tell you about last weekend, which was a blast for us, as it marked our third out of state trip. The weekend started Friday night at The Three Kings Tavern in Denver, where we were proud to take part in the “Drunkard National Convention,” or DNC, sponsored by Modern Drunkard Magazine. The night started with performances from the Burlesque As It Was troupe and the one man band, The Limbs, who simultaneously sings, plays guitar AND a drum kit. It was a sight to behold! After our set, Drag the River, the advertized headliners for the evening, performed for the appreciative crowd. Their set was followed by a surprise unannounced set by legendary punk band ALL. However, for us all this was eclipsed by emcee Sid Pink, and the rousing endorsement he gave us from stage after our set, and by the girl who very drunkenly tried to use our instruments as a restroom. (Remember, it was the Drunkard National Convention. If there is a more appropriate place to get so drunk that a pile of guitars looks like a good place to pee, I don’t want to know about it). After The Three Kings we returned home to get a few hours of sleep before leaving to go play in Lincoln, NE. We spent most the drive across I-80 making playlists for everyone to listen to on our iPods (featuring extensive picks from both Dugan Nash and Orville Sash) and playing mad libs (an activity whose funny-ness is in direct proportion to the participant’s tiredness. We must have been exhausted). When we arrived in the town of Lincoln, there was some road construction which forced us to detour. Unfortunately the detour lead us to a train crossing where we had to wait for not one, not two, but four long trains to pass before we could go. We must have sat there for a good 25 min, which was a bummer because we were already a little late. After we could finally get past the train crossing we headed for downtown to find Box Awesome, the venue we were playing. After even more delays because of traffic caused by the end of a Cornhuskers game, we got to the club. The scheduled opener was no where to be found, so we went on first and had a good time. After us, our new friends Manny Coon and Orion Walsh (and band) each performed. A good time was had by all, and then it was back to the hotel to sleep for a bit before the next day’s drive to Wichita. Sunday we woke up, and after a lunch of Mexican food, we were off to Wichita’s Rack ‘Em Up Club. The staff there were awesome and provided us with copious amounts of whiskey and beer, which was appreciated. After a set from Wichita's own brother / sister duo Lucy and Albert, we performed and had a great time. We returned to the hotel, watched some Arrested Development while “enjoying” some Miller Lite (the only beer we could find at that hour) and then left for the long drive back to Denver the next day. It was an awesome weekend, thank you to everyone who was involved, we really appreciate it! -The Hollyfelds The "DNC" and their platform for this election year, "Vote for a party!" ![]() The marquee at Wichita's Rack 'Em Up Club 4 of 5 Hollyfelds agree, Box Awesome is, well, Awesome! Where is the 5th Hollyfelds? Someone needed to take the pic, and the fearless Tim Mallot stepped up to the plate! Lucy and Albert performing at Wichita's Rack 'Em Up Club. Is it blurry because we were drunk when we took the picture, or because you are drunk now? You make the call. Thank YOU Westword Music Poll Voters! Thanks to YOUR votes, The Hollyfelds are proud to announce that we are winners of the "Country / Alt-Country" category of the 2008 Westword Music Awards. Thank you, thank you, thank you! -The Hollyfelds http://blogs.westword.com/backbeat/2008/06/music_showcase_awards_and_the.php |

Listen to what these fine folk have to say, we didn't even bribe them:
“Throughout the album, the deft, soulful musicianship of all five Hollyfelds stand out, but it’s Eryn’s and Kate’s stunning harmonies that make Saratoga an utterly delightful listen. Their honeyed voices contain just enough of the whiskey and heartache that makes great country music.” |
